Julian is British, but has been living overseas since 1992. A scientist by training, with a degree in biochemistry, his career has covered management, technical and environmental consulting, including six years in Russia. He moved to KL in 1998 to head up an environmental consulting company, before moving to Tioman Island to pursue his dream of running his own dive centre, which he did for six years. It was during that time that he became interested in Reef Check, which he helped to set up in 2007. Reef Check now has a national coral reef survey programme and field offices in three sites.

Hesti Widodo has been working in marine conservation capacity building and outreach for more than 15 years. She has been involved in developing curricula-modules and delivering structure training related to marine protected area establishment and management, coastal zone management, community-based coastal resources management, and marine area management effectiveness for application in Indonesia, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Timor Leste. She holds Master of Research (M.Res) in Environmental Social Science and Master of Management in International Marketing (MM).  Hesti is currently leading core program integration of Training and Learning, MPA Learning Site, and Learning Network at the Coral Triangle Center.

Klaas Jan Teule brings with him over 21 years of experience in advancing policy, innovation and fundraising to protect biodiversity for nature and people. Klaas is currently leading the WWF Coral Triangle programme that aims to restore and protect the world’s most biodiverse marine ecoregion. WWF Coral Triangle is committed to improve the management of marine protected areas, put a stop to marine plastic pollution, and develop sustainable fisheries with a focus on regional food security, halting the catch of juvenile tuna and supporting coastal community needs through livelihood alternatives. WWF works closely with the CTI-CFF, a multilateral government platform led by Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, East Timor, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Klaas is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
